Stephen Sondheim’s
FOLLIES
My concept for this production of Follies was the view of the crumbling Weissman Theatre and its past glories through the lens of a shattered mirror. Pieces of backstage find themselves on-stage creating a surreal purgatory as the setting for the showgirl reunion that takes place in collective memories of its participants.
For “Loveland”; I chose to mimic the lush style of Joseph Urban in the Ziegfeld Follies of the 1920’s and to set the collective nervous breakdown of the main characters in the world of “The Follies” glorifying memories of love and romance as they saw them while performing in “The Follies” in their 20’s.
*This is model is still in progress and more photos will be added as pieces are completed for the remaining “Loveland” songs.
